ROGERS – Do you want to test how well you know a second language?
Scholars at Haas Hall Rogers have the opportunity to earn the biliteracy seal because of the efforts of Claire Glover, the Spanish teacher and lead teacher at the campus.
As stated by the Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy, the seal is an award given by the state to recognize students who have demonstrated proficiency in two or more languages by the time they are ready or have graduated from high school.
“To receive the seal, students must demonstrate proficiency in English and in another language,” Glover said. “There are a number of ways to do this, but most of my scholars provide proof of a 19 or above in English on the ACT and then a 3 or above in one of the AP Spanish classes.”
If you are a high school senior who is trying to earn their seal of biliteracy, there is an alternative test that allows seniors to know faster whether they can or can’t apply for the seal because of AP scores not coming back until June or July after the senior has graduated.
Glover said there are benefits to earning the seal.
“It’s not only an award but tangible proof of skill & competency in a second language which is impressive to future employers and colleges, as well. Many of my seal recipients have gone to college and started taking Spanish classes already in the 3000 level,” Glover said.
