A peek into the future

ROGERS – For some scholars, their desired career path is filled with challenges and hard work. Makenna Gigliotti, a 17- year- old senior at Haas Hall Academy, plans on getting her EMT license by taking classes at Northwest Arkansas Community College.

“I got the idea when I was volunteering at Northwest. The nurse said I should gain experience and I researched what classes at NWACC I could do,” Gigliotti explained how over the summer she found out about NWACC, and her interest was caught  by a nurse at the hospital.

Gigliotti then went through the requirements to apply to a NWACC class that would help start her chosen career path.

Together, you’ll review the available concurrent courses,” said Haas Hall Academic Advisor Mallory Scherrey.

“After finding a course that aligns with your goals, your advisor will then seek approval from the superintendent to move forward,” Scherrey explained.

Gigliotti said the classes require a lot of time and commitment. She takes about 3 quizzes a week and a unit test every other week.

I’m studying every night,” Gigliotti said. “When I’m not studying. I’m either at work or at school,” Gigliotti said.

With all this time used on this class, anyone would wonder if it is worth it in the end.

“I hope in the future I can say yes because I know I can do it, and I know I can work hard to be an EMT and get the license and do all these requirements so that I can help people and learn,” Gigliotti confessed.
