Growth, inclusion, and community involvement are at the center of Amelia Dunavan’s goals as she steps into the role of Haas Hall Rogers new headmaster following the retirement of Bethany Culpepper.
With seven years of experience as Executive Director of Special Services, Dunavan brings years of administrative experience within Haas Hall. She has worked closely with parents and the headmasters of all five Haas Hall campuses to ensure scholars received the support they needed. According to Dunavan, this experience prepared her to lead the Rogers campus.
“I really love Haas Hall,” she explained. “I want to make sure we continue the vision of growth for our campus and honor the vision Dr. Shopmeyer had when creating it.”
During her first year, the headmaster said her main focus is growth, increasing scholar involvement, and making sure all scholars feel included. She emphasized the importance of building a strong community where students feel supported both academically and personally.
One area the headmaster hopes to improve is the school dress code. While she understands scholars may find it frustrating, she believes streamlining it is important. “If we can’t get the dress code right,” said Dunavan, “then we can’t properly represent our campus.”
Building relationships with students is another priority of the headmaster. She shared that her door is always open and that she wants scholars to feel comfortable coming to her with concerns or questions.
She plans to connect with scholars through scholar announcements, pep rallies, and talent shows. According to Dunavan, activities like these help build relationships with scholars and encourage stronger involvement with the community.
What she enjoys most about her job is interacting with scholars. She described enjoying conversations with scholars, watching presentations and celebrating academic success. Seeing how proud parents are of their children’s achievements is especially meaningful to her.
As she begins her time as headmaster, Dunavan expresses excitement and optimism for the future. She hopes to continue Haas Hall’s college bound mission and support every scholar, every day.
